Today I want to share with you this very easy Crochet Basket pattern. The basket measures approximately 6 1/2 inches tall by 8 1/2 inches wide once complete and to be quite honest, works REALLY well in a kids bedroom for their small toys, on storage shelves, or even for all that scrap yarn 🙂
Approximately 180 yards (2 skeins) of Size 6 Super Bulky Yarn (I used Lion Brand Hometown in the picture above)
Size 9mm crochet hook
Yarn needle for weaving in ends
CH = Chain
SL ST = Slip Stitch
ST = Stitch
STS = Stitches
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
NOTE: (Parentheses show the number of STS in that round). Also, CH 2 does not count as stitch.
3 inches = 4 Stitches
Holding 2 strands together, CH3.
Row 1: Work 8 HDC in first CH, then SL ST to first HDC.
Row 2: CH 2, work 2 HDC in each ST around, then SL ST to first HDC. (16 STS)
Row 3: Ch 2, *HDC in same ST, 2 HDC in next ST*, repeat from * to * all the way around, SL ST to first ST. (24 STS)
Row 4: CH 2, HDC in same ST, HDC in next, 2 HDC in next *HDC in next 2 STS, 2 HDC in next ST*, repeat from * to * all the way around, SL ST to first ST. (32 STS)
Row 5: CH 2, HDC in same ST, HDC in next 2 STS, 2 HDC in next, *HDC in next 3 STS, 2 HDC in next ST*, repeat from * to * all the way around, SL ST to first ST. (40 STS)
Row 6 – 13: CH 1, SC in same ST, then SC in each ST around, Join to first ST (40)
Row 14: After you have completed round 13 you need to Ch 7, Skip 7 STS, SC for the next 13 STS, then CH another 7, Skip 7 STS, and then SC in last 13 STS.
Row 15: SC 9 times around the CH 7 (handle), SC in next 13 STS, SC 9 times again around the 2nd CH 7 (handle), then SC in next 13 STS, Join with a SL ST in next ST.
